Speaking strictly from a vintage, cost effective, standpoint; I have three nominations. Dynaco A-25 speakers, Conrad Johnson PV-1 preamplifier, Eico HF-20 amplifiers. Use these three pieces together in a system with a CD or Vinyl source. You will have an unbelievable sounding system that will rival a lot of very expensive new high end gear for less than the price of a good cartridge.
