"I do not consider it a perfect reference (live unamplified acoustic music) but I can't think of a better one for subjective listening evaluation of a playback system."

I don't think you need a reference for subjective evaluation. But if one wants to use their "sense of realism" as a criteria that is their prerogative.

An objective evaluation of accuracy needs an objective reference. One's "sense of live music" ain't gonna work. Objective measures of accuracy require objective measurements.
