RE: New 180 gram vinyl started showing up in stores 20 years ago - most made from digital files.

You don't have to look further than the Loudness Wars, which by no small coincidence began in earnest about the same time as the proliferation of new vinyl including 180 gram vinyl. It wasn't just CDs that are overly compressed, also vinyl, SHM CD, SACD, hi res. And one should consider that CD playback has always been plagued by certain "entrenched" and intractable problems that affect the sound. E.g., scattered laser light getting into photodetector and Compact Disc instability - wobbling and fluttering. So it's no wonder CDs often sound weak, generic, threadbare, congealed, rolled off, boomy, synthetic, boring, compressed and two dimensional compared to good vinyl.

Of course there are many other factors and issues involved with both analog and digital but speaking generally these other factors are possible to deal with and relatively well documented. Compared to scattered laser light and fluttering discs. Vibration, RFI, magnetic fields, electric fields, what have you. Morphic fields.
