I suspect those most upset

believed MoFi's sound great because they were all analog. Now they find those discs sound great with a layer of DSD and the 'it has to be all analog' mantra is shaken if not dismantled.

In-Groove Mike's interview with the mastering crew was interesting, they certainly believe that finding and using the right tape is the most important thing and that having the time to extract the information off that tape is next. One said he'd much rather do a remote DSD transfer at his own pace than have the tape at MoFi and be rushed to master from it.
So, you could argue their releases are original master recordings but I think they'd have to be dense not to realize their customers expected the discs cut directly from the original master. Are the engineers to blame for not making that clear or the management?

And, of course, back in the day when no one cared about vinyl record labels would send tapes to MoFi. Now they won't.
