The US has the harshest copyright laws.
This is because of lobbyists. And it was not lobbied by the families of those artists, it was the producers and promoters. They get a substantial cut.
Someone bought a bunch of rights, I think Michael Jackson owned the rights to all the Beatles songs. They were in public domain and got sold. Sold by whom ? I am part of the public, where is my check ?
What the government did is called conversion under most laws in the US. Personally I would like to prosecute the case. They would have no problem prosecuting me.
So I am not feeling any guilt whatsoever about all the music I downloaded on P2P. In fact I was one of the last ones doing it because of my software and knowing how to use it to avoid a virus. The RIAA flooded the network with them, as well as bad files.
