that will soon close.
A retailer, audio, video, cheese or whatever is not just selling an item. The internet is where we go to buy stuff we already know all about. Since we know all there is to know, or darn close to all there is to know, we search for the lowest possible price on the 'net.
When we DON'T know about something, that's when we seek out a local B&M store and expect to pay a little more, maybe even a lot more, so that we can benefit from the knowledge and service that the retailer offers IN ADDITION TO THE ITEM.
If he's in it only for the sale and not to provide the support, he's not going to get any repeat business or maybe even none at all. If his prices are 40 to 50% over what they are online, well there had better be a good reason for it.
And sometimes there are. If it's an audio dealer, then maybe he helps me figure out if what I want to buy is a good fit or will come and help set it up or at least see the room and offer suggestions. There are dozens of great reasons to pay more to a local equipment dealer but there is one thing for sure... his need to make 40% more in revenue for just selling me something is not one of them.
