There were only three people per store - that's one way they kept the overhead down - the manager, the full-time salesperson, and a part-time sales person to helps out on the busy times. Back then (I don't know about today, Virginia had "blue laws" that forced all businesses - except gas stations - to close on Sunday. So the biggest shopping day was always Saturday. Back then I was playing in a band also, so on Saturday would get off work and then go to a nightclub to play. I also worked two other days per week so that the full time guys had another day off besides Sunday. Saturday would be jammed with customers and needed all 3 people to handle the in-store traffic.
