RE: If the doors are open, the business is making money, turning a profit.

In the long term? Certainly.

I'd also say that your "rule" seems to apply even more to "nonprofits."

If the $$$ isn't rolling in to ensure fat salaries for all involved (at least at the mid to upper level,) the doors will most surely close.

With respect to "for profit" businesses? I've known more than a few that kept the doors open LONG after what would have been advised, because the owner felt a responsibility to the employees, or to the customers they served.
