> > where did Dixie Hi-Fi/ Circuit City originate? < <I worked there in the mid- to late-'70s. At that time the HQ was in Richmond, Virginia. However I have a vague memory that the first store may have been in a DC suburb, like Alexandria. They started out with one location plus mail order ads. Little tiny ads in the back of magazines like Stereo Review and maybe even Popular Electronics.
While I think the store's margin was either 27% or 29%, that was on top of a small (5%?) margin for the warehouse at the Richmond HQ. Employee purchases had to pay the warehouse margin. It's been a long time, so I'm a bit fuzzy.
