Agreed.

The Marantz 8B in 1962 at $285 would have been roughly 6% of the average persons income. Adjust for inflation the 8B would be around $2700 these day or roughly 6% of the average persons income.

The difference being of course is the 8B could have been considered SOTA in 1962. A $2700 tube amp these days would certainly be a very nice amp but hardly SOTA. It might be better than the 8B.
