...to at least one widely revered musician.
I've enjoyed Roy B. in the past (but haven't listened to him for many years), but I know some guitarists who worship him.
A current example for me is Joe Bonamassa. A friend took me to one of his concerts about two years ago and he left me cold -- seemed like a good example of what is sometimes called guitar diarrhea. Lots of technical flash but without much of a point. It didn't help that I thought the songs themselves were weak.
I've probably seen every popular musician dissed by someone at some point -- Beatles, Brian Wilson, Madonna, and so on.
Issues like this have been around forever. Here are a couple of classical tidbits: Rossini said: "Berlioz is a regular freak without a vestige of talent" and Tchaikovsky said about Richard Strauss: "Such an astounding lack of talent was never before united to such pretentiousness."
