RE: "Molten lava..."

Hi Tom,

"Molten lava" sound also depends on the LP. Some LPs that are cut from the digital source don't have that molten lava sound on my turntable. Almost all of the many original LPs that I have from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s have that 'hot chocolate/molten lava' quality. I think it's mostly due to the fact that those LPs were cut from the analog tapes.

There are some differences and variations even among those LPs, and I think it's down to whether they were cut using tubes or transistor based equipment. I personally am a big sucker for that indescribable tubey sound, even if it sometimes veils some of the intrinsic details.
