as are most of his. The first two on Polydor are good, the live one pretty
strong, the Alligator stuff decent enough. But there are NO truely classic RB
LPs. They are mostly spotty with the high points being few and far between.
He was his own worse enemy in many ways and (according to John L. Wasserman
in 1975) never wanted to be famous. Thusly a lot of mediocre bands OR the record
companies/producers pitting him with ace studio musicians (even nudging him
towards fusiony material) and dull covers.
They just never knew how to market him.
That said, I'm a huge fan of his guitar playing and LOVE his quirky style.
Saw him in 1976 and the band was fair, the songs OK, RB on FIRE.
His solos were nothing short of stupendous. But you can't have a successful musical
career based solely on solos.
He might have made an interesting Rolling Stone, though most likely a short lived one.
