I had the opportunity to see Roy a few times live. He had a certain magic to his playing that only a few have. I would put him in the Stevie Ray Vaughn category although he probably would have liked to be more Hendrix like. If you watch his performance on YouTube at Austin it is amazing. There are a bunch of stoned out hippies there and they are all mesmerized by his play. Like Stevie Ray, a rare talent who died too young.
Thanks. Would you mind posting links to some of his youtube videos at Austin? I've seen a bunch of videos where he was playing live, and so far it all looked/sounded like someone who started to learn a song, then quit half way through and just started messing with it, noodling, meandering, playing super sloppy, bending strings recklessly and indiscriminately, all along being horribly out of tune. would love to see him play some coherent music for a change.
