Re: Burn in -- does it mean that.................

The simple answer is... it depends.

As far as the MSB DAC goes, it's always on, unless you unplug the power cord.

"Burn in" involves pushing out the evil, anti-musical electrons and replacing them with good, rhythmic pro-music electrons.

How that is done depends on the device. For a DAC, feeding it nice, musical input for extended periods is required. No music need come out of amp or speakers, but the DAC should "dance" the whole time.

Ditto CD players, as long as they spin and produce output, they are burning in.

Amps and speakers are another matter. There they must be making music of the audible kind, and at reasonable levels. I've heard of people wiring their speakers out of phase and putting them face to face for the break in period. Personally, I think the out of phase part would confuse the good electrons and give them some kind of vertigo, which will result in a washy, diffuse soundstage.
