Sorry to be possibly harsh here, but come on!!!!
I have sold about 12 items on Agon and I would be pissed if a buyer's check took 9 days to arrive. Ever here of USPS priority? PayPal?Plus, you have every resource that the seller has to determine shipping costs. Oh, here's one: www.ups.com
Here's another one: www.audiogon.comMaybe the seller made a mistake, maybe he's a jerk. But, he has your $$ and you have nothing. Did you look at his feedback? Did you ask to speak leave for a minute or two?
Ask to speak to the guy. I assume you have his address since you sent him a check. 411!!!!
