I found several KEF LS50 Wireless II on eBay for around $1500. You or they need to add stands. I used a pair for quite a while before I upgraded to the LS60. I use Roon, Ayre DX-5 DSD, and eARC from a 85" Sony. The audio with the LS50 W II was excellent. Eventually they could add one or two KEF KC62 subs for a setup that should last them for years. The KEF Connect app makes integration simple.
Self contained speakers are house friendly, an important consideration.
