Okay, the magazine was a bit wierd. You concentrated on stuff that wasn't my speed all the time, but then you would hit the nail on the head.

Listener wasn't a "flavor of the month" magazine. I found the "hey look, this thing is cool" quasi-hype on the covers to be much better than the "Absolute best in the world today" (actually until next month when its competitor is on the cover with a similar statement) hype the remaining two mags tend to dwell on. Listener was a guidepost on a path. You shared your findings with friends, not preached your version of the Gospel to customers.

Hey, the rabbits...were weird. The sqiggly Art artwork...was weird. The fascination with SETs and hypersensitive speakers for them was a bit....weird. Your insistence on political commentary was just annoying (As your political nemesis, your rantings carried as much kick with me as a worn out, gassy 2A3..single ended, with toasted output iron and a few bad caps) since it made me frustrated with you, and made me mutter various things about mental capacities and questionable parenthood, but I digress. In all your wierdness, you were my friends. Strange friends indeed, but as comfortable as my old Bass loafers that I can't bear to toss out. I looked forward to every issue. Everything stepped aside for the music. There was a purity there, a need to question, and especially a need to search that I identified with.

Listener was a rare thing. I will miss it, especially the breath of fresh air that came sealed in every hermetically sealed baggie. Beats the stale feeling I get from the other two choices.

Good luck to all on the Listener staff.
