There are a number of factors

The manufacturer is usually not lying, and of course, a cursory investigation bears that out.

""I dont think that what you and I consider research would be the same thing.""

Research is research, Lamm's word, - just one. Physical inspection another, sound, research on how much the internal components/elements are.

What do you read in my post that makes me say that the only research is LAMMs word?

""While I think that LAMM tube amps sound wonderful and offer some of the best low level detail I have ever heard""

EXACTLY, - the most important point. So, in this world of high performing, luxury goods: what you're paying for is expensive parts, amazing engineering and design talent, and incredible sound. Is it worth it to me and you? no, - it is not. But on the other hand, how many manufacturers make something that sounds better for less? How many manufacturers make a product that is even more expensive that sounds better? The proof is in the pudding.....

The person who wants the best is going to consider LAMM.

I have also used the analogy of the VRDS NEO, - it's a good idea, it's expensive to implement, the parts and motor are rare and expensive. It can be more or less "worth it" depending on how the rest of the player is implemented. Yet, - no to few other transports retrieve as much information: it is the best for a reason. Someone may come out and make one just as good for less some day, - implementing a new idea.. who knows?

Many people here who whine about the high cost of things, don't care to research why, don't listen to them, (for that part of the research), and make uninformed, and stupid ASSUMPTIONS about value: attaching the values of lo-fi and mid-fi to something that is clearly outside that class.

Do these people go on auto websites and complain about the costs of the latest Mazerati and the price increases there? Not as much. Because they know enough not to apply the values of the Yugo to the Ferrari.

Where people had paid to see inside,
For entertainment they watch his body twist
Behind his eyes he says, 'I still exist.'"
