Haven't heard the Toshiba, but this Philips was only $45 at Circuit City on a closeout. It sounds better than a Mitsubishi I had for a few days and compare favorably with my Rotel RCD-855. Someone at Digital was just raving about the Zenith 312. For a workshop unit, you can hardly go wrong with the Toshiba 3950, Philips 727, the 624, or the Zenith. Lots of choices.
