Just a comment from the peanut gallery here. I use ss amps. I have been considering tubes for awhile, for CD playback as you state. Even my old NAD stuff sounds pretty decent with vinyl, it's the CD sound I don't like.Lately, with the improved sound of the 20 and especially 24 bit masterings which have been released on CD, I'm thinking that my main source of dissatisfaction is with the CD format. Those new 24 bit CDs of Sony and EMI sound quite excellent on my "sand" gear. Not as good as vinyl, perhaps, still quite acceptable for me.
I have been wondering if it would be worthwhile to invest a lot of money in tube gear at this point. After reading your posts, I think I will wait. Thank you.
