Actually the cost of CDs has come down if you are comparing apples to apples. I am buying CDs that I paid $15 for 10 years ago for less than $10 today. Same recording only different series (like renamed CBS Great Performance recordings under the new Sony label or London's Penguin series which contains recordings from Decca). The problem comes with new releases. The cost of overall production which is related to the ever increasing fees paid to performers is increasing and you pay the price. I bet the cost of actual CD production has at a minimum stabilized and more likely come down. At any rate, recorded music represents one of the best entertainment values around. I've got recordings of classic performances that the audience paid many times more to hear live and only once, and I can hear it almost more times than I have life left for.
