Very interesting notes. Personally, I deplore jargon. It tends to obfuscate and seems like the worst kind of elitism: I know and you don't. Attack is a word I know as a former musician and which makes sense. To me that is a lot clearer than transient. My thought is that when I hear better "transients" from gear that means I can hear more overtones and details of the playing. Would you agree? Of course, instrumental attack determines what overtones are heard, correct?I advocate cooperation of all involved, which seems to be your position. For example, even though a musician might not care about the soundstage, he/she could still help evaluate the accuracy of reproduction for an instrument. On the other hand, a technician might note that for a particular session certain instruments might be moved to a different location to give a more interesting and balanced performance when heard through speakers. Unfortunately, human egos being what they are, many want to feel their little niche is more important than others. That causes the most problems, I think.
Thanks for the well-thought-out and detailed reply.
