They missed my birthday in, ahem, 1957.I believe the IBM computer in 1981 was an 8 bit 8086 (still Intel's phone number?). Did it not double the speed on the "standard" z80 chip to a superfast 4.7MHz? I know someone will correct me if I am wrong.
I took a class in college: electronic music. It was popular because we got to use the 16 track boards more than the Music tech students. I spent a significant amount of time on a Moog number 3 built by Moog himself. It had all these modules and you made "music" by patching modules together. You had to control about twenty five patch cords simultaniously. I was lousy at it. But I had the coolest stereo around. ;)
