My opinion

"While I'm enjoying upgrading my digital front end and may continue to do so, it recently dawned on me that all the stuff going on in the digital world is an attempt to get closer to analog."

My opinion is that the marketing you hear relating to making digital sound analog is an attempt to capture the last market of audiophoolishness: TT owners.

Joe on the street average consumer abandoned analog a LONG time ago. Evidence is at any "record" store around town.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying vinyl is inherently bad, it can be very very good. But it's an apples to oranges comparison, and Joe Consumer long ago choose apples as the only fruit he wants to eat.

When digital reviewers describe their machinery, they like to use the term "analog" to refer to almost magical properties attributed to vinyl -- wider frequency response, smoother transitions, almost infinite additional information storage. That type of crap.

Someday when I have an extra $10000 burning a hole in my pocket I will re-invest in analog. But for now, a far more modest digital front end does a pretty good job.

I suggest you avoid the hype and just listen.
