The big thing with reviews is that they are not the end point for selecting hardware, they are the beginning. Each reviewer has thier own preferences and biases. One persons crystal clear imaging is anothers finger nails on the blackboard edginess. Ultimately all a review can do is point you in the right direction, it is up to you to listen and determine what your own preference is. No universial measuring technique can be applied to determining what your preference is. I'm sure that if you had the time you could sit down and measure all the variables of all the equipment that you prefer and come up with a set of specifications and measurements for the type of "sound" you prefer. Of course it would only be applicable to you and no one else. What some people will do is calibrate thier reviewers, if a reviewer consistantly lauds the type of equipment that you prefer, then perhaps your tastes are similar and you can place more weight on thier reviews in the future. Its a completely personal voyage.
