Re: A stereo 70 with 6L6's?

There was a mod from ARC to improve the ST-70 and it used 6l6's. The reason for the 6l6's was that the replacement PCB had 7 tubes on it- 3 x 12AX7, and 4x 6FQ7. These tubes drew so much filament current the change was made due to the lower filament requirements of the 6l6's. This allowed a very nice 25 watts output and a nice musical amplifier. I have had several of them and they are nice. I have one now that has a replacement transformer that is heavy enough to use EL34's with the ARC front end.
