I've seen the same thing with the Mullard rectifier in the ST-70. Also a Telefunken (looks identical) that I ran across- much tighter all around. I'm using a Mullard rectifier, XF2 EL34's, Bugle Boy ECC88's and an Amperex PQ 6322 in an ST-70 with Joe's board and an SDS capacitor bank. I can't say that I'm disappointed.
I have Joe's upper tier board on hand also, but have never felt too motivated to change out the middle tier version. I have another ST-70 that will get it instead.
