orchestrations of Rock Music by the London Philharmonic and Royal Philharmonic conducted by unknown conductors. So far the only people who have done very tastely orchestrations of Rock and Pop music have been Arthur Fiedler with his Boston Pops and Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops. They both use excellent arrangers and the resulting music is almost like miniture classical masterpieces. However those recordings of the London Philharmonic and Royal Philharmonic sound like Rock music badly played with orchestral instruments and for me they just work. Arthur Fiedler and Erich Kunzel are the only ones, so for I like in this genre.
You must have read my post about selling most (not all) of my Rock, Pop and Jazz SACD and DVD-Audio's. It's just that I like Classical Orchestral, Orchestral Pops and Orchestral Movie music the best. But I still listen to all types of music. Right now I am listening to Scottish Folk music played by William Jackson and Mackenzie.
It's just that a lot of modern Rock and Pop music is very difficult to listen to due to the depressing vocal quality of the singers (most seem to sing like they are on the verge of doing away with themselves), the distortion in the electonic instruments and lack of harmonic invention. For these reasons and because I needed to make room for the flood of new Classical SACDs, I had to sell the SACDs that I really didn't like anymore, most was Pop / Rock but also many Jazz SACDs were sold. This also enabled me to pay off my credit cards again.
So I am not 100% Classical, but I do prefer to listen to Classical music when I really want to listen to music.
Happy listening,
Teresa
