Don't know about availability right now, but the best I have used under $2K costs closer to $1K - the East Sound CD-E5. I have one now, and I have no desire to upgrade - it is the best player I have used to date (other recent digital sources used - EVS Millenium DAC, Monarchy 33 DAC, Audio Refinement CDP). I brought this player over to a couple of friends places as well....I almost didn't get out alive with the player! :-)
I live in Canada, and the CDN distributor is Allied Sound (1-877-438-4434). I don't know who is US Distributor, but I'm sure they could help you out.
