HowdyI think it's even more confusing than that. For example Asynchronous sample rate conversion vs. synchronous sample rate conversion (2 independent clocks vs. a clock and another clock derived from it by some rational multiple.)
So instead of relying on ambiguous distinctions between upsampling, downsampleing and oversampling, I try to err on the side of saying integral upsampling, ASRC, SSRC, etc. just to make it more clear what I'm trying to talk about.
