The PMD-100 is the Pacific Microsonics HDCD chip. I am pretty sure if there is dither going on, apparently the chip is capable of *downsampling* conversion. Where the dither would be beneficial in signal conversion. Also, since it supposedly truncates non-HDCD signals (upon selection of its internal attenuator), dither can be applied to minimize its negative effects.
