thanks for the information. good grief, i will be annoyed to realize upsampling and oversampling are more alike than not. i'm hoping that break-in yields some benefits since we have many more cds than sacds - it's unclear to me just how good the new high rez formats really are - some feel it's the new mastering of material that may be the biggest improvement. i expected the philips implementation OF UPSAMPLING to be good since they know (or least should know) what they're doing at this point. the assemblage (sonic frontiers) upsampler apparently did well with listeners, so i expected the upsampling process itself to be generically more than just the emperor's new clothes ...
