too soon to say i know, but with a new machine and tens hours break-in via XLO degaussing and burn in tracks (6,7&8) and i decided to listen early and with help of sennheiser 580 phones i detect that 192 upsampling appears to remove some leading edge transients and alter phase. to me it at this admittted early stage it almost seems as if rather than cutting a cookie dough log with a chef's knife, it's being divided with a butter knife. on talking heads' speaking in tongues cd i notice david byrne's voice go from slightly behind left shoulder to slightly infront of right shoulder. percussion instruments are down in the mix. also i hear more background tape hiss. it's different, but not better.not to hijack this interesting discussion but i wonder what is really happening at this point with what sounds like some kind of funky filtering that i do not prefer, so far...
