Aren't the Meridian players a little narrower than 17"?If you want to keep the DAC there are small transports out there -- including plenty of used CAL deltas and the occasional Audio Alchemy. You can also try a Monarchy DIP, not to mention improved digital cables, power supplies, powercords ... all of which is why there's a lot to be said for a good 1-boxer, because it simplifies life.
As a previous poster noted, the idea that a DAC works well with any old transport should be taken with a grain of salt.
