Ahhh, but that is passive I/V talking. You cannot hope to properly drive any sort of run-of-the-mill preamp with a chip that draws a peak of 20mW. With these chips, you MUST have either an ultra-high input impedance output stage or do I/V conversion actively. The 1545 has more accurate conversion if you're willing to try (oh no!) an active output stage. The key to the Kusunoki sound is the digital filterless aspect, not the passive I/V. It astounds me how many people out there stick exactly to Kusunoki's initial design. He liked the passive I/V, but nobody knows what kind of downstream components he used when voicing that thing! That little resistor is rather simple, though, and veeeery cheap.I am very interested in hearing what you find with the Audio Note. I don't know anybody who has one - though my friend Chiggy I think has heard one before - so I am very curious how it stacks up to my designs.
