Re: What causes skips in a transport?................

I had a CD Player that would skip randomly on different discs with no rhyme or reason. I opened it up and found the 2 rails that the laser assembly rode on had a lubricating grease that had hardened on the rails and would bind the transport every now and again. I used Q-tip's to wipe as much of the hardened grease off as I could and then lightly applied an oil based lubricant on the cleaned rails with Q-tips.

Don't know if applying the oil based lubricant was advisable, but it worked like a charm for me. Never skipped again in the 9+ months I used it...and my brother is using it to this day with no issues (2 yrs.).
