Maybe I'm missing something, but it doesn't make much sense to me that somebody is not an audiophile, is going to spend $10K on a system, and is willing to let a friend make all the decisions regarding what to buy.My opinion is that you should convince him that a good, musically satisfying system can be had for $3K, less if buying used. I guess my snobbism is showing as I am not sure if it can be done (for me) in, say, $1K budget.
