Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Meridian 508 or Micromega Trio + dac?

In the search for new speakers it’s become clear that I could gain a lot by also changing my CD-player, a Marantz CD63 mkII (?) from –95. My dealer has a very nice Micromega Trio transport (650$) that I could hook up to my Cambridge Audio Dacmagic (not in use at the moment) or with an EAD 1000 mkII that I can get second hand for about 300$. Eventually I would like to move to a better dac, I’ve heard a tubed AudioNote and did like it a lot.

Some questions have popped up in my head:

How worried should I be about buying a transport from the mid 90’ies? Are they reliable? Is there a clear gain compared to using my current CD player as transport?

Is it worth getting the EAD dac instead of using the Dacmagic?

Another possibility would be a second hand Meridian 508.20 for slightly more than twice the price of the Trio transport (1500$). This would “hurt” financially at the moment but might be worth it in the long run?
I would like to buy used gear, any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Mikke

BTW Speakers will be either Sonus Fabers (Concerto or Grand Piano), JM Reynaud (Twin or Trenté) or Spendor FL8 if it’s of relevance. I'm in the midst of extensive auditioning!
