Not all DACs use a built-in regulator...
the cheapest of any electronic device fails to use a voltage regulator. An ultraRendu endpoint, by comparison uses six.
Typical SMPS also generate lots of RFI noise which is the primary reason for using linear power supplies.
Don't expect the world for $139. ;)
