It's a bit confusing to me because the Alpha Design Labs ADL FURUTECH GT40a will operate as a phono preamp, DAC, or ADC over its USB port but I'm not sure how that is configured.

SETUP 1:

- Do not use the TACT at all.

- Use the GT40a strictly as a phono preamp. Connect TT to the GT40a phono inputs. Do not use it's USB port at all.

- Connect the GT40a phono outputs to the HRT LineStreamer RCA inputs.

- Connect HRT LineStreamer USB to the Mac.

- Plug headphones into the Mac to monitor audio. Or plug headphones into the GT40a jack to monitor audio.

Use Audio MIDI setup on the Mac and look for the HRT LineStreamer. Choose it as the audio output device. Look at the settings in Audacity to ensure it is getting its signal from USB/HRT LineStreamer. I haven't played with Audacity in several years so I can't be more specific.

Launch Audacity. Hit record. Play a record. Adjust GT40a volume output. Adjust Audacity volume level.

Do you see signal activity in Audacity on your Mac screen as the record plays?

Can you adjust Volume on your Mac in order to monitor the audio via headphones?

NOTE: If this setup works, the nice thing about the GT40a (as with my PS Audio GCPH phono) is that it has a Volume output level control. The trick is to set the Volume level output from the GT40a to be provide a sufficient and strong enough signal for good dynamics w/o over driving or excessive clipping of the digital signal into Audacity. You can watch the VU meters in Audacity.

SETUP 2:
Not there yet but here you will try the GT40a alone w/o the HRT Linestreamer. One advantage here if you can get this setup to work is that the GT40a has a headphone output for listening while recording.
