I'm a newbie, but Roon is rock solid on my MB Pro. Sounds great through my Ruby's DAC. Can't say I'd spend more than a few hundred for a streamer, BS Node? Nucleus on the "higher $$$ end", what $1500 or $2500? Then again a new M1 Mini for $1,000 would be all I need. I was perfectly happy with my SB Touch until it got glitchy, which I'm still hoping to figure out. Did everything I needed for the $250 my family paid for it as a gift some 10 years ago.
