RE: Hybrid SACD disc on a old CD drive?

It may indicate that the the laser has lost power given the age of the transport. The CD layer on a hybrid SACD lies underneath the SACD layer and the CD player's laser has to have enough power to penetrate through the SACD layer.

OR

It really isn't a good recording and your player is revealing it as such whereas your friend's system is masking this fact.
