Home Digital Drive

Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Ok, Coming Down to the Wire...

We're supposed to close on our refinancing next week and yes, I'm taking some off the top for myself to buy some new equipment. I mean, it's been 15 years since I bought anything, so...

I'm leaning hard into the Marantz KI Ruby SACD player/Dac. I can't hear it, but everyone says it's great, and the place that has it has a return policy.

So, talk me into or out of it. Other options are to go higher to the SA-10, but I don't think I need the balanced outputs. I have several SACD's that I do listen to, the Ruby is supposed to be a good RB player and a good DAC as well. I could also go a bit lower and get the new Marantz 30n, but I really don't like the aesthetics on that one.

Only other option I see is to get a cheaper SACD machine (actually thinking of the Sony X1100ES, or the X800M2) and getting an outboard DAC (Border Patrol, despite some others' reluctance). I'd prefer one box, but $4,000 vs. $2,500 would save $$$ for new amp and speakers. They would also play the few DVD's I have, and some I want (Chailly Mahler LGO for example, only available on Bluray).

No, I don't want to rip my CD's to a hard drive and deal with all the editing involved, my loss I'm sure. I'll use a Hi-Rez steaming service for when I want that convenience.

I could get the Ruby and the Sony/Dac, to try, but trying to explain to my wife, well remember I'm also after a new amp and speakers, and streamer! But, our anniversary is coming up and I could get her something nice, like the Living Voice speakers...just kidding.

So, fire away, all comments welcome but FYI, I'm no tweaker or DIY'er. AT ALL, again my loss, but c'est la vie.

Oh, and no Schiit. I'm sorry, I just can't. Another loss for me.
