RE: Gustard A18 DAC

I'm currently running my A18 at -6dB. My line preamp has way too much gain to run the A18 at full output.
I also own 6dB in-line attenuators (Harrison Labs).

Would you say in theory I should rather use the in-lines? seems counter intuitive to me. I was using them in the past when I had a CD player with no output level control...
