" I use Qobuz for downloads but am not always sure if the CD quality download files were actually 16-44.1 files to begin with or merely resampled MP3 files because Qobuz has CD downloads that aren't even available through the source music company/artist websites. Also not available as downloads from other online other music retailers. Not necessarily an accusation but it does make me curious as to how Qobuz does it."
Tom, I am pretty sure that Qobuz only supplies files provided by the record company and that if they say they are 16/44.1 or 24/96 etc. they will be just what they say they are. They do not engage in any manipulation. Very rarely I have found files that are not what they say they are but in every case this has turned out to be a mistake by the record label in sending the wrong audio file with the right metadata.
As for having titles that others do not that will be a result of their licensing agreement. They seek both streaming and download rights for everything on their servers. Because distribution rights (sales) are often territorial this is the reason why Qobuz, unlike the others, has a different service and thus different catalogue for each country that it operates in. Of course sometimes they have the download but not the streaming rights and you will find the odd notice appearing on their dedicated players informing you of the fact.
