This doesn't refer to the phase question. BTW, it is strange how Marantz have put it in the earlier quotation. As far as I am aware it is only the Japanese that stick to the old pin count for XLR balanced. Europe and the USA both use the current AES standard where pin 2 is hot. Offhand I cannot think of any currently manufactured USA or European audio equipment that does not follow this.

Of course you are right. No difference at all in signal level. In fact as I seem not to be sensitive to phase (or polarity) reversal, no change at all!
