The 200 indeed gives the warning you mentioned.
The 200i doesn't.
In fact the diagram op page 15 (200i) describes your use case (optical and coax out to different components)
I think you can safely use them.
The only thing I can conjecture up is that they in case of the 200 had a DAC in mind wihout input selection.
