A SPDIF cable should have a 75 Ohms impedance.
The termination should also be 75 and this can only be achieved using a proper BNC connector.
Using BNC instead of RCA is technically the best solution.
The other digital input is likely AES/EBU, the professional standard
Here you need a cable with 110 Ohm impedance and there is no XLR with a 110 impedance.
Impedance mismatch by design.
