My PCM1704 based DAC and matching transport have a range of AES/EBU, RCA, I2S and Toslink connections between them - at either 44.1kHz or 94kHz. Toslink is not a poor relation. I found it at least as good as an Audioquest Vodka Ethernet/I2S connection.
